Properties and Composition of the Water

The natural Prolom water is one of a group of very rare waters with high balneological value providing potential for a very wide range of indications. It is a natural mineral water with low dissolvable mineral content characterized by:

OLIGOMINERALITY - many minerals in small amounts. Prolom water has a dry residue of 144 mg/l, thus it belongs in the group of oligomineral waters since its dry residue is below 1 g/l.

ALCALITY - Prolom water belongs among the high-alkaline waters, since the pH value at the spring ranges between 8.5 and 9. Due to its high alkaline content Prolom water has the following properties:

- Increases diuresis and reduces the acidity of urine, with favourable results for kidney diseases, particularly sand and stone (oxalates and urates), as well as any other kidney diseases where acid urine reactions are found;

- Following ingestion of Prolom water the acidity of the gastric juice is reduced, with favourable results for digestive organ diseases;

- It increases alkaline reserves in the blood, maintaining its pH value at healthy alkaline level, which is imperative for processes of cellular breathing and nutrition. This effect is highly important for persons with diabetes since it reduces the danger of acidosis.

HYPOTHERMICITY – the temperature of Prolom water at the spring is 26-31.5°C.

These properties indicate that Prolom water can be used as healthy drinking water providing vitality and strength with no strain on the body.

The Belgrade rehabilitation institute completed a full physical-chemical analysis of the water and provided a report on its therapeutic value, while regular analyses are conducted at the local laboratory in the Prolom water factory (daily) and the Institute for Public Health in Niš (monthly).

Chemical Composition of the Water

Mud made from Prolom water is also used in medical treatments. Earth with high mineral content is used from a locale near the Prolom water spring. It is sifted, heated and mixed with the curative water and the mud is then used for direct and indirect application.
